The AQF Level 5 nationally recognised management qualification for senior NCOs and officers, ES sergeants & station officers, plus civilians stepping into frontline management. Holders apply substantial specialised skills across business operations, finance, leadership, and strategic planning. Choose from 9 specialisation streams to match your management direction.
The BSB50120 Diploma of Business is a nationally recognised vocational qualification at Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 5, drawn from the Business Services Training Package (BSB) and registered on training.gov.au. It is governed by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Released in October 2020 as part of the BSB Training Package overhaul, it superseded BSB50215 Diploma of Business and several specialised diploma qualifications, consolidating Diploma-level business management into a single flexible qualification with 9 specialisation streams.
The qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles who may have frontline management accountabilities. They carry out moderately complex tasks in a specialist field of expertise that requires business operations skills. Holders may possess substantial experience in a range of settings but seek to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions. They apply judgement in planning, design, operational, and management functions within highly varied or specialised contexts.
Successful completion of 12 units of competency is required (5 core + 7 elective). The 7 elective units must include a minimum of 2 from Group A — Business Operations, with the remaining 5 selected from any of the specialisation groups: Group A (Business Operations), Group B (Leadership), Group C (Organisational Development), Group D (Compliance), Group E, F, G, H, or Group I (Evaluations) — or up to 2 imported from any Cert IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in any currently endorsed Training Package. The qualification is awarded by Asset College (RTO #31718). Training and assessment are delivered under a third-party arrangement with Asset College RTO #31718. A Diploma sits at AQF Level 5 — the qualification standard for individuals applying specialised technical and managerial skills in highly varied or specialised contexts. Holders demonstrate the ability to plan, evaluate, and analyse, with the autonomy to make significant decisions affecting team and project outcomes. The recognised entry credential for Operations Manager, Business Manager, Department Manager, Project Manager, and Frontline Manager roles in Australia.
The Diploma of Business is the most flexible Diploma in the BSB Training Package — usable across every industry sector and matched to 9 distinct management specialisations. It satisfies tender prequalification, government contracting requirements, and Bachelor degree credit-transfer applications. According to the ABS, professional and administrative manager roles consistently rank among Australia's largest occupational groups, with sustained demand across public sector, defence industry, and private enterprise.
Choose your specialisation — 7 elective units selected. For a specialisation testamur, 4 of those 7 must come from the chosen specialisation group, with at least 2 always from Group A. Tap a tab to view 3CIR's standard package for that stream.
