OPTION 4 – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you already have skills and experience relevant to this qualification, you may be eligible for RPL. Contact us or complete an RPL Assessment Form to determine what is the right option for you.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is defined as an assessment process that involves the appraisal of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal) to determine if learning credits can be awarded.

Credit reduces the amount of study required to achieve a qualification and is the value assigned to recognise equivalence (in content and learning outcomes) between different types of learning and/or qualifications.

3CIR facilitates students’ progression through qualifications by giving credit for learning outcomes they already have achieved. Credit outcomes may allow entry into a qualification and/or provide credit towards the qualification.

An awarded credit may reduce the time required for a student to achieve a qualification.

RPL involves evaluating each individual by determining the extent of their previous learning and its equivalent to the learning outcomes of the desired qualification.

The typical RPL process consists of the following stages:

  1. Identifying the evidence required
  2. Providing advice to students about the process
  3. Providing students with sufficient information to prepare their evidence to meet the standard required for the RPL assessment process
  4. Assessing using appropriate evidence-gathering methods and tools
  5. Recording the outcome, and
  6. Reporting to key internal and external stakeholders.
RPL assessment:
  1. Should recognise learning, regardless of how, when and where it was acquired, provided the learning is relevant to the learning outcomes in the qualification and
  2. Must ensure evidence provided is valid, authentic, current and sufficient, and that the process is fair, flexible, reliable and valid.
RPL assessment methods:
  1. Should address prior achievement of the learning outcomes and assessment requirements of the particular qualification for which credit is sought
  2. It should provide a range of ways for individuals to demonstrate they have met the required outcomes and can be granted credit. These might include:
    1. Mapping of learning outcomes from prior formal or non-formal learning to the relevant qualification components
    2. Questioning (oral or written)
    3. Observation of performance in work-based and/or simulated environments
    4. Challenge examinations/assessments
    5. Consideration of third-party reports and/or other documentation such as articles, reports, project material, papers, testimonials or other products prepared by the RPL applicant that relate to the learning outcomes of the relevant qualification component
    6. Consideration of a portfolio and review of contents, and
    7. Participation in structured assessment activities that individuals normally would be required to undertake if they were enrolled in the qualification components.
RPL Outcome

The assessment outcomes may enable the student to meet the qualification’s entry requirements and/or components. This may reduce the duration of the qualification.

3CIR – Training and assessment delivered under a third party arrangement with Asset College RTO31718, which is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). We operate in a similar way to a franchise. However, we operate under our business name and only deliver a selection of courses in our field of expertise.

Our partner training organisation, Asset College (RTO #31718), is a well-established business with an exceptional reputation for delivering training and we are an integral part of their organisation. Not only do we extend our reach by delivering courses, but we also contribute to their ongoing development by providing a broad range of industry expertise that is used to design and continually improve their courses. We also contribute to our significant pool of shared resources available to our clients.

Asset College has developed a program where individuals and businesses that are not RTO’s can form an alliance with Asset College and deliver our Nationally Recognised courses without the hassle of becoming an RTO.
