According to the Labour Market Insights provided by Jobs and Skills Australia, over the five years to November 2026, employment is expected to grow across all 19 broad industries and all 8 broad occupational groups, with a significant focus on post-school education for new jobs. Notably, sectors like health care and social assistance, accommodation and food services, professional, scientific and technical services, and education and training are projected to lead this employment growth, reflecting the long-term structural shift towards service industries.
This shift indicates that for those transitioning from military or emergency services to civilian employment, there is a vast array of opportunities in sectors that value the leadership, teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving skills honed in service. The need for post-school education in 91.7% of new jobs underscores the importance of qualifications like the Certificate III in Business, which provide foundational business knowledge and cater to the growing demand for technical and professional skills across various industries.
Furthermore, the employment projections highlight significant growth in occupations that require high skill levels, suggesting that further education and upskilling can enhance employability in sectors experiencing rapid growth. This is particularly relevant for those interested in roles that leverage their experience in structured, strategic environments, such as project management, logistics, and administrative positions within the identified growth industries.
The emphasis on post-school education aligns with the evolving demands of the Australian labour market, where a premium is placed on technical knowledge, professional competencies, and continuous learning. For military and emergency services personnel, pursuing a Certificate III in Business could be a strategic step towards securing a rewarding career in the civilian workforce, leveraging their unique skills and experiences in a market that values adaptability, leadership, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
These insights provide a glimpse into the future of work in Australia, highlighting the sectors and skill sets likely to be in demand. For military and emergency services personnel, this information is crucial for making informed decisions about their education and career paths post-service, ensuring a smooth transition into industries with solid growth prospects.
