This qualification mirrors individuals’ crucial role in coordinating and maintaining an organisation’s WHS program and aligns with the Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) Strategy 2023–2033. As WHS supervisors and managers, you will employ a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills across diverse WHS contexts, responding to ongoing and emerging challenges with innovative solutions.
The strategy, endorsed by the Commonwealth, state, and territory governments, embodies a national vow to enhance worker safety over the next decade. It targets a 30% reduction in worker fatalities due to traumatic injuries. It emphasises the need to tackle psychosocial risks and navigate the implications of artificial intelligence, automation, and new forms of work like gig employment.
As the nature of work evolves, six megatrends outlined in a CSIRO report will shape the future of workplace health and safety. These include the rise of automation, which will reduce physical and psychological workplace injuries, an increase in workplace stress and mental health issues, the shift towards less active service-based employment, which will lead to chronic illnesses and challenges in maintaining work-life balance amidst the blur between work and home due to telecommuting. Such trends underscore the complexity of WHS roles in adapting to a changing work environment.
By enrolling in this course, you’ll be at the forefront of addressing these challenges, equipped with the latest strategies and practices to foster safer workplaces. You’ll gain insights into managing psychosocial risks, leveraging technology for safety, and promoting well-being amidst the shifts towards a more automated, service-oriented economy. This qualification opens doors to careers where you can make significant impacts, ensuring the health and safety of workers in an ever-evolving employment landscape.
