Allied health professionals, including a broad range of practitioners like paramedics, occupational therapists, and psychologists, have experienced the greatest growth in Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) rates from 2015 to 2020, indicating a robust demand for their expertise across the healthcare spectrum.
The Australian health workforce demographics indicate a youthful and predominantly female composition, especially among nurses, midwives, and allied health practitioners. With the underemployment rates fluctuating in response to economic downturns and the pandemic, the resilience of the health sector employment is evident, though not without its challenges. The disparities in underemployment rates between genders highlight an area for continued focus and improvement.
