Available via RPL from $1,387.50 or blended workplace workshops with 3CIR's 25% military and emergency services discount applied. Issued through Asset College (RTO #31718) under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Develop advanced operational safety capabilities across security, corrections, law enforcement, and protective services — with specialisations in use of force instruction, critical threat management, and general operational safety leadership.
The Diploma of Operational Safety reflects the role of individuals working in dynamic and high-risk environments, requiring advanced technical skills and knowledge to perform specialised safety and operational roles. This nationally accredited qualification prepares learners to undertake complex and unpredictable tasks, exercise initiative and sound judgment, and take responsibility for the coordination, implementation, and management of safety procedures across diverse operational contexts.
Learners develop the capacity to lead and support teams in managing occupational violence and aggression, respond effectively to critical incidents and emergencies, and conduct behavioural observations to identify and mitigate operational risks. The qualification also equips participants with the skills to design and deliver training and manage operational safety programs and initiatives.
This general pathway offers maximum flexibility — choose 6 elective units from across all three specialisation groups (Use of Force Instructor, Critical Threat Management, and General Electives) to tailor the qualification to your operational role and career goals.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the nationally accredited 11346NAT Diploma of Operational Safety through Asset College (RTO 31718). This qualification positions you for senior operational safety roles including Security Team Leader, Protective Services Coordinator, Operational Safety Manager, and Corporate Security Advisor. Graduates are equipped to lead teams, manage safety systems, and coordinate responses to critical incidents across the security, corrections, defence, and protective services industries. Average salaries for these roles range from $85,000 to $150,000 depending on specialisation and sector.
The Diploma of Operational Safety is available in three streams. You are currently viewing the general pathway which allows maximum flexibility in elective selection:
A nationally accredited course (NAT) is a VET qualification developed to address specific industry skill gaps not covered by existing training packages. Unlike training package qualifications (prefixed BSB, CPP, PSP, etc.) which are developed by Jobs and Skills Councils, nationally accredited courses are developed by Registered Training Organisations or other bodies and submitted for accreditation by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
The 11346NAT Diploma of Operational Safety was accredited in May 2025 for a five-year period after extensive consultation with over 100 industry stakeholders. It carries the same national recognition as training package qualifications and is listed on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) at Diploma level (Level 5). The qualification addresses critical training gaps in operational safety, use-of-force instruction, and threat management identified by the Australian Security Industry Association and the National VET Regulator.
