The BSB40120 Certificate IV in Business is a nationally recognised vocational qualification at Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 4, drawn from the Business Services Training Package (BSB). It is governed by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and registered on training.gov.au. In 2020, it superseded eight separate Certificate IV qualifications including BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (now separate as BSB40520), BSB42415 Certificate IV in Customer Engagement, BSB42115 Certificate IV in Recordkeeping, BSB41015 Certificate IV in Human Resources, BSB42615 Certificate IV in New Small Business, and BSB42215 Certificate IV in Frontline Management — consolidating the Business Services VET landscape into a single flexible qualification.
The qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles who may have supervisory performance accountabilities. They carry out a mix of specialist and moderately complex administrative or operational tasks requiring self-development skills. They use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base to apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.
Successful completion of 12 units of competency is required (6 core + 6 elective). The 6 elective units include 2 from Group A (Self-Development) plus 4 from a chosen specialisation group: Group B (Leadership), Group C (Business Administration), Group D (Business Operations), Group E (Sustainability), Group F (Big Data), Group G (Cyber Security), Group H (Financial Administration), Group I (Records and Information Management), or Group J (Procurement). The qualification is awarded by Asset College (RTO #31718). Training and assessment are delivered under a third-party arrangement with Asset College RTO #31718.
