The BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business is the AQF Level 6 general-management qualification — for senior administrators, executive officers, and leaders responsible for complex tasks in a specialist field, technical research, and contributing to strategic direction. Built for SNCOs and officers, ex-service heads of department, station officer-level emergency services personnel, and civilian managers stepping up from frontline to general management. Available via RPL from $1,612.50 or online study from $3,337.50. Issued through Asset College (RTO #31718).
The AQF Level 6 nationally recognised qualification for general managers, senior administrators, and executive leaders who carry out complex tasks in a specialist field, undertake technical research, and contribute to setting strategic direction. The bridge between frontline management (Diploma) and strategic leadership (Graduate Diploma).
The BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business is a nationally recognised vocational qualification at Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 6, drawn from the Business Services Training Package (BSB) and registered on training.gov.au. It is governed by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Released in the 2020 BSB Training Package overhaul, it superseded the BSB60215 Advanced Diploma of Business (the qualifications are not equivalent — BSB60120 reflects substantially evolved competency requirements at the AQF L6 standard).
The qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles who may have general management accountabilities. Holders carry out complex tasks in a specialist field of expertise. They may undertake technical research and analysis and will often contribute to setting the strategic direction for a work area. The qualification is suited to individuals responsible for the supervision and leadership of a team or work area — including managing staff performance and making staffing decisions across functions including organisational finance, business planning, corporate social responsibility, and digital strategy.
Successful completion of 10 units of competency is required (5 core + 5 elective). Of the 5 elective units, a minimum of 3 must be selected from Group A, with the remaining 2 from Group A or Group B. Up to 2 elective units may be imported from any currently endorsed Diploma or Advanced Diploma where relevant to job role. Unlike the Diploma, the Advanced Diploma is a single qualification with no testamur specialisation streams — every graduate receives the same nationally recognised credential. The qualification is awarded by Asset College (RTO #31718). Training and assessment are delivered under a third-party arrangement with Asset College RTO #31718. Direct pathway to BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) and BSB80320 Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership.
An Advanced Diploma sits at AQF Level 6 — the recognised qualification standard for individuals carrying out complex tasks in a specialist field of expertise with general management accountabilities. Holders demonstrate broad theoretical and technical knowledge, autonomy and judgement in complex contexts, and responsibility for the strategic direction of a work area. The benchmark credential for general manager, senior administrator, executive officer, business analyst, and department-head roles in Australia.
According to Jobs and Skills Australia, demand for senior managers, organisational change leaders, and strategic operations specialists is projected to outpace supply through to 2030 — particularly across professional, scientific and technical services, public administration, defence, and emergency services. The AQF L6 credential is increasingly the entry-point benchmark for general management positions and APS EL1/EL2 equivalence in government roles.
The BSB60120 Advanced Diploma of Business is a nationally accredited qualification from the Business Services Training Package, listed on training.gov.au, governed by ASQA, and aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework. Verify directly with the Commonwealth authorities below.
